Attending the 45th National Conference on Local and National History, organized by the Philippine National Historical Society (PNHS), was a rewarding experience! I had the honor of being a part of the delegation of the Bangsamoro Commission for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage (BCPCH) Lanao del Sur, where I handled photography and documentation for our team.
A highlight of the conference was reconnecting with Sir Regalado “Ricky” T. Jose, who introduced me to Dr. Bernadita Churchill. Sir Ricky reminisced about our time together in Bacolod Kalawi, Lanao del Sur, during the Kota Kalawi Archaeological Project, where I supported him. Notably, Sir Ricky currently serves as Chairperson of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), while Dr. Churchill is the President of PNHS.
I also had the chance to meet and take a selfie with Professor Emeritus Dr. Sukarno D. Tanggol, former Chancellor of Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology. He gave a compelling talk on “Federalism in the Philippines: My Story, My Advocacy.” As an advocate of constitutional reform, particularly the federal, parliamentary, and open-economy principles championed by the CoRRECT Movement, I was curious about Dr. Tanggol’s thoughts on governance. Interestingly, he expressed a preference for the presidential system, a thought-provoking perspective to consider.
Next year, I hope to join the National Conference on Bangsamoro History. Insha Allah!
